We have some exciting changes to announce, so here is a little update about the new locations for the spring semester of the LAFSC.
The Center
This year, we are excited to announce the new location of The Los Angeles Film Studies Center. We will be on the whole second floor of Building 15 on the Sunset Las Palmas Studios Lot located at 1040 North Las Palmas Avenue in Hollywood, Los Angeles.
This historic lot has been home to many films and tv shows since 1919 when it was founded. Very famously, I Love Lucy was filmed and produced in front of a live audience in Stage 2 on the lot. Throughout television’s rise, SLP hosted shows including Petticoat Junction, The Beverly Hillbillies, the Lone Ranger, Mr. Ed, The Addams Family, Get Smart, and many others. More recently, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Everybody Loves Raymond, Boy Meets World, Soul Train, and Jeopardy! seasons 2-10 were filmed and produced on the lot. HBO’s first season of True Blood was also shot here. One of the lot’s biggest television clients has been Disney Channel, which used the lot for its family sitcoms including The Wizards of Waverly Place, That’s So Raven, Kickin’ It, The Suite Life of Zach & Cody, Jessie, and A.N.T. Farm.
In 1980, Director Fancis Ford Coppola purchased the lot, intending to use it to produce a number of films, which the SLP continued to be used for even after its change of ownership. Some notable films that interacted with the lot include The X-Men, Zoolander, Dumb and Dumber, Scream 2, Con Air, When Harry Met Sally, The Karate Kid, and La La Land.
This lot has had a rich history, and we’re excited to be in such an important location for film and television.
Like previous years, the Center is a walkable distance to the student’s apartment and will be open 24/7 and available for students to use whenever in addition to class times.
The Apartments
The apartments students will be living in are The Huxley and The Dylan, 2 complexes owned by Essex Apartments. These beautiful apartments are only a couple blocks from each other, and they both feature some pretty nice amenities, including a pool, a fitness center, rooftop terrace and clubhouse common spaces, a patio/balcony, and in-unit washers/dryers for students’ convenience. These are secure buildings that are close to grocery stores, shopping, restaurants, and even urgent care. The map attached shows their locations to each other and the Center.
We are so thrilled to share these details and provide a glimpse of what the LAFSC spring 2023 semester is going to look like.
