Hi Friends!
The LA Film Studies Center’s biggest and most encouraging asset is you, our friends and partners. We are grateful for our partnership with Olivet Nazarene University over the last few years, which allowed us to bounce back from 2020’s program closure during the pandemic. However, the plan with Olivet has always been to complete that partnership by launching LAFSC as an independent nonprofit program. While we will continue to serve CCCU members institutions, this change will allow us to also create new partnerships with schools outside of the CCCU.
We are happy to announce that over the last year, we have completed the process of officially becoming an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, having received our letter of determination from the IRS just this month.
The immediate positive impact of this is enormous.
- We are able to continue the program beyond the end of Olivet’s administration after the Spring 2024 semester.
- We are able to announce the creation of an LAFSC launch fund, which can receive contributions from a variety of charitable sources and will ensure we are sustainable for years to come (more info on this in the coming weeks)
- We are able to create a tuition reduction program, ensuring equitable recruitment and enrollment and a more diverse student body
- We are able to serve as a fiscal sponsor on qualified alumni projects, so that donations to those projects become tax-deductible (more info on this in the coming weeks as well)

- Consider how you might be able to contribute to our launch fund campaign, set to begin in mid-November.
- If your company has a corporate social responsibility department (or might want to begin one), inquire about becoming an industry sponsor of LAFSC.
- Follow us on Instagram or Facebook
- If you are an alum of the program, join our alumni Discord server or Facebook group

Amazing! We all always had such a heart for this but couldn’t do it under the old model. I hope this opens up so many new roads for students to make it to the program!
